Satellite-Powered Monitoring of TPIs and Methane-Emissions in Trinidad and Tobago.

Delft, Netherlands, 19 December 2023

In addition to monitoring Third-Party Interference in pipeline corridors, Orbital Eye also supports pipeline operators in detecting possible methane emissions using satellite data. For this capability, Orbital Eye works together with GHGSAT, a Canada-based provider of high-resolution greenhouse gas monitoring from space.

Over the past years, we have monitored the pipeline and several assets of The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) for both Third-Party Interference and potential methane emissions. Satellite-based monitoring is particularly valuable in remote areas, where it offers an efficient alternative to on-site monitoring. When Third-Party activity or a possible emission was detected, NGC personnel could respond on-site and take the necessary mitigating measures.

In this case study, Orbital Eye, GHGSAT, and NGC outline how NGC has adopted satellite-based monitoring, the results achieved, and the value this approach has brought to its operations.

NGC will continue using satellite data in the years ahead to monitor its assets for both third-party interference and methane emissions, demonstrating its commitment to innovative technology, operational safety, and environmental responsibility.
